Synopsis
In April 1991, with big hopes of providing a better life for her family, 17 year old Maricris Sioson (Ruffa Gutierrez) arrived in Japan to work as a club entertainer. After four months of hard work, Maricris was suddenly admitted in a private hospital in Fukushima. She died one week later, declaring hepatitis as the cause of death. But when the family of Maricris Sioson opened her coffin they found that she had been beaten and stabbed.
Human rights Activist Cynthia Gallardo (Janice De Belen) is determined to unravel the truth behind Maricris’ death. With the help of an OWWA Representative, Alvin (Joel Torre), together they lead the investigation of the controversial Maricris Sioson Case.
Based on a True Story, MARICRIS SIOSON (Japayuki) chronicles the struggles of Filipina entertainers in Japan who were denied of their rights and were abused and maltreated by their employers.
